The beautiful and talented director and 31-year General Hospital veteran, Kimberly McCullough, has grown up before most of our eyes. It is not always an easy fate for an actress to transition from an adorable child into a young woman in front of millions, but over 20 years ago, McCullough did so with grace and strength, not unlike her well-admired onscreen alter ego, Robin Scorpio (without a trace of awkwardness). That is why it is especially unfortunate that the two time Emmy winner found herself to be the subject of off-handed and ill-willed tweets by some supposed “fans” of the long-running sudster who couldn’t help making snippy comments about the actress’s weight at her current age of 38.
Ever the inspiration, the Pretty Little Liars and KC Undercover director (@whitewatercrew) tweeted in response:
“FYI I’m not offended by convos about my weight. So, I’m a little chubby. In my 20’s I was “too thin.” It is what it is people… 😉”
While it is true that the actress gained a teeny bit of weight, her appearance is far from grotesque and when she recently visited Port Charles on October 27th (in the aftermath of Morgan’s death), she looked as vibrant and gorgeous as ever. It is actually refreshing to see a healthy woman that dresses in everyday clothes that reflects the average size and shape of a typical mother in her late thirties. As a matter of fact, I am only a few months younger than Ms. McCullough, and both her and the character of Robin have always been ideal role models for someone that essentially grew up alongside her.
Thanks, Kimberly, for keeping it real and helping ALL women realize that we are more than the shapes and sizes that we are packaged in. We can hardly wait for Robin to return for subsequent visits.
